Over the years

Of course my blog would be dedicated to what has impacted me the most in life. And oddly enough one would think that it would be something that was some major event, such is not the case. Its all about D&D.

I was a small kid growing up 4', 80 pounds in grade 7 and often hung out in my back yard. I could hear some noise this one day and it sounded much like fighting. Peering over the fence from my backyard I looked to see where the arguement was taking place. I see these two boys, fighting in the neighbor's back yard, punching and kicking at each other (later i would find out it was their grandmother's house). They went at it while i was in my backyard and in the midstance of throwing more punches i interupted them. "Hey!?" they stopped throwing punches and turned in unison staring at me over the fence. "My name is Henry whats yours."

[see first you must meet somebody that knows, or you can teach yourself though the road be longer]

When we got to know each other better the older one invited me over to his grandmother's place. We could go downstairs to the basement to hang out (thats where his grandmother would send us). We played hours of "monkey shines" or "lock-in-chase" or even "blind-man's bluff" it was always the quick thinking games. One day he asks if i ever played D&D, and of course i hadn't. So next time he "came down" to his grandmothers place (about 1 time each week or 2) he brought this brief case. I remember this dog-earred light-tan colored, accordian-style case that rounded at the top and more squarish at the bottom. He said his grandfather gave it to him. To me it looked cool. It looked like an old weatherbeaten satchel that has seen many places in the world and held something cool inside cause both the brothers seemed to think this was the coolest game ever.

Al (the older brother) knew D&D (basic)...kickin this old-school peeps! Thats what I learned basic D&D. Truth be told it wasn't all that bad. In fact to a new gamer it was unbelieveably awesome. Every weekend he came down to visit I requested he bring the D&D. I wanted to see my character grow. Graystone the first. Graystone had a family and adventuring was how he was going to make some gold!
